In 2014, the Office of the Financial Services Ombudsman was proud to host the International Network of Financial Services Ombudsman Conference (INFO 2014). INFO 2015 will be held in Helsinki, Finland from 13 September to 16 September and the office will be represented by Ms. Suzanne Roach, the Financial Services Ombudsman (FSO) and Ms. Annalisa Vallabh-Patel-Jean, Legal Counsel.
The International Network of Financial Services Ombudsman Schemes is a worldwide association of Financial Services Ombudsmen and other independent offices operating as out-of-Court dispute resolution mechanisms in the financial sector. A large number of Financial Services Ombudsmen are retired Judges, attorneys-at-law and highly respected experts in the financial sector. The Conference in 2014 was seen as a strategic and significant international event and marked the first time that it was hosted in this part of the world, with it being previously held in Taipei, Taiwan ROC (2013); Copenhagen, Denmark, (2012); Vancouver, Canada (2011); Cape Town, South Africa (2010); Dublin, Ireland (2009); New York City, USA (2008); London, England (2007) and the Gold Coast, Australia (2oo6).
It should be noted that Trinidad and Tobago is one of the smallest nations and the only Caribbean country with a FSO Scheme.
The FSO has been selected as a panelist in two sessions during the conference and is standing for re-election in the INFO Network Committee for the upcoming year. At INFO 2015, they will share and bring back to the Agency a wealth of knowledge gained from discussions and information sharing with other members of the scheme.
